Cleanse Me, Lord
This might be the earliest of all these songs (1985 or so). My old friend, Jeff
Jaquess and I collaborated on this one. (He’s a “real” musician, singer, and
worship leader. I dabble.) Anyway, it expresses the intent of my heart to be “well”
before the Lord in a state called, “Holiness.” The “Break me…” verse actually
came several years later as I was enduring yet another breaking in my life. Some
have told me that this verse is unsing-able from the vantage point of being simply
too convicting. Who wants to sing, “crucify my flesh I pray”!

[Written with Jeff Jaquess]

C           F     G      Am                          F

Cleanse me Lord; make me more like You

C     F          G       Am                      F  G

I need your grace just to seek your face

F             G       C                Am

Create in me a desire after Thee

F                            G                    C  Am

Make me more like You in every way

F                              G                 C

Make me more like You in every way

C           F     G      Am                          F

Break me Lord, set my spirit free

C     F          G       Am                      F  G

Come break me so your nature can be released from me

F             G       C                Am

Slay me Jesus, crucify my flesh I pray

F                            G                    C  Am

I bow before your throne today

F                              G                 C

I bow before your throne today

C           F     G      Am                          F

Fill me Lord; plunge me in your power

C     F          G       Am                      F  G

I need the Dove, to tell them of your love

F             G       C                Am

Anoint me Father with the oil from above

F                              G                 C

Fill me to overflowing now

F                              G                 C

Fill me to overflowing now
