In a sense, all prayer is a subversive act, as it challenges unjust systems and dethrones the “rulers of the darkness of this world” that animate those systems. Those who pray with hunger for righteousness recognize how the singular rule of the “King of all other kings and Lord of all other lords” subverts the rule of anti-kingdom systems and lays the groundwork for God’s new society on earth.
Come Benevolent Ruler, and take your rightful throne in our hearts, in our churches, in our courts, and in our culture. Come, Lord, and make the kingdoms of this world become more and more the Kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ!
